For some, Memorial day is the start of summer and water sports. For most, it is just another holiday. For me, Memorial day has profound meaning for remembering our ancestors and those that have passed before us.
Yesterday, to try and avoid crowds, Amy and I went to Wasatch Lawn Memorial Garden to visit the graves of my grandma, aunt, great grandparents, and great great grandparents. Apparently visiting graves is a new adventure for Amy and I'm not sure how excited she was at first to go. I love the cemetery on Memorial day. Wasatch Lawn has a rule against standing headstones. Since they are all flat, the flowers make it look like a lush garden rolling on for miles. It is a very pretty sight.
I try to go to the cemetery more than just once a year... Its like honoring your mother more than just on mother's day, but its nice to have a day set aside and dedicated to that one practice. I don't know about others, but I feel a strong connection to my ancestors, especially my great grandfather.
